WishList LMS Glossary

Understanding terminology helps you navigate WishList LMS and manage your membership website and courses properly.

This glossary provides concise definitions for common terms you’ll encounter. Each entry includes context and practical application information.

Core Membership Terms

TermDefinition
Account PageThis is one of the WishList LMS reserved pages. This is the member’s dashboard, where members can manage their profiles and subscriptions. Members can also find payment history and membership details here. Located at /account by default.
Active SubscriptionA valid subscription to a specific membership that contains a current transaction (payment) that grants content access to a member. Members’ access continues until the subscription expires.
AdministratorWordPress user role with complete WordPress website control, including all WishList LMS features and settings. Can override all protection settings and manage member accounts. Has access to all site content regardless of protection.
Application FeeA percentage-based fee applied to Stripe transactions. The fee percentage depends on your WishList LMS plan.
Type de facturationPayment structure can be One-Time (paid once) or Recurring (subscription needs to be renewed for each subscription period). Setting the billing type for a membership determines whether the subscriptions for this membership renew automatically. Set during initial membership creation.

Payment and Transaction Terms

TermDefinition
GatewayPayment processing service (Stripe or Offline). Each payment method connects to one gateway. Online payments must be handled through Stripe.
Offline PaymentGatewayThe payment gateway is used for managing various payments, including bank transfers, checks, and those received through third-party services. This payment gateway needs to be managed manually.
Offline PaymentPayment made outside of your website or offline requires. Often, these payments require the administrator to confirm payment before granting members access.
StripeOnline payment processor integrated with WishList LMS. Handles credit card processing and manages recurring subscriptions automatically. Available on all plans.
WebhookAutomated communication between Stripe and your site. Updates payment status in real-time. Handles renewals and failed payments.
TransactionIndividual payment record for subscription period. One-time subscriptions have a single transaction. Recurring subscriptions accumulate multiple transactions, one for each billing period.
CompléterTransaction status indicating successful payment and active access. Shows a green indicator in the transaction list. Grants members immediate content access.
PendingTransaction status awaiting payment confirmation. Common with offline payments. The member has no access until the transaction status is changed to completed.
RembourséTransaction status for returned payments. Access is revoked when the refund is processed.
Cancel SubscriptionAdministrators can cancel subscriptions to stop future recurring payments. Members can also cancel their own subscriptions when this option is enabled in settings. Access continues until the current period expires.
Coupon(s)Discount codes applied at checkout to reduce membership prices. Coupons support fixed amounts, percentages, and trial periods. Available on the Basic plan or higher.
Pause/Resume SubscriptionAllows members or administrators to temporarily pause a recurring subscription and resume it later. Available on paid plans when enabled in settings.

Content Protection Terms

TermDefinition
ContentDifferent posts, pages, and custom post types that contain your texts, images, and other content. WishList LMS can protect these posts, pages, and custom post types.
Custom Post TypeSpecific custom content posts beyond standard posts/pages. Custom post types (CPTs) are posts with custom functionalities. These are often added to a WordPress website by your theme or plugins (e.g, WishList LMS courses are a CPT).
GuestSite visitor who is not logged in. These users can access all public content but not the protected content.
MemberA WordPress user on your website, with a current (active) or previous (expired) membership subscription.
Meta BoxThe settings panel in the WordPress block editor (Gutenberg) which contains protection configuration options. This panel is visible while you’re editing post/page content.
Rules (Access Rules)Centralized content protection at Dashboard > WishList LMS > Rules. Rules apply protection across single content items, categories, tags, content types, custom URIs, and partial content sections. Available on the Basic plan or higher.
PayWallUnauthorized access option that displays a paywall blocking the protected content while indexing it for search engines. Available on the Plus plan or higher.
Page-Based ProtectionWishList LMS allows protection of individual pieces of content (e.g., a single post). These settings are available in the Meta Box when editing posts and pages.
Protected ContentAn individual content with Page-Based Protection applied to it. This content is not publicly available.
Access ProtectionA field in a meta box where you can list the memberships allowed to access the specific protected content.
Required MembershipsMemberships that are listed in the Access Protection field of the specific protected content. Members can access specific protected content only if they’re currently subscribed to one of the required memberships.
Unauthorised UserA guest or a member without an active subscription to a required membership who tries to access the protected content. When visiting the protected content, unauthorised users will either see the unauthorized message or get redirected.
Unauthorized MessagesAn unauthorized access option that displays an unauthorized message to unauthorized users instead of the protected content.
Unauthorized RedirectionAn unauthorized access option that sends (redirects) unauthorized users to another location, often to sales or registration pages. This is an immediate redirect, which means unauthorized users won’t be able to see the protected content before being redirected.

Membership Structure Terms

TermDefinition
L'adhésionA subscription package that defines the subscription details like pricing, duration, and access level. Users subscribe to a membership by registering through the membership’s registration page.
Registration PageAuto-generated membership signup page. Each membership has its own unique registration page and URL. The default registration page URL format is: /register/membership-slug.
AbonnementA user’s active purchase of membership for the one billing period. A subscription is always associated with a single membership and includes at least one transaction.
One-Time SubscriptionThis is the subscription type that contains a single transaction for a defined duration. When the transaction expires, the user’s subscription to the membership will end. These subscriptions will not be renewed.
Recurring SubscriptionThis is the subscription type that contains multiple transactions – one transaction for each billing period. When the current transaction reaches the expiry date, the subscription is automatically renewed, and a new transaction is created for the next billing period. This way, the user’s subscription is extended continuously until the subscription is cancelled.
GroupCollection of related memberships. Enables upgrade functionality between levels. Generates automatic pricing comparison pages.
Pricing PageAuto-generated group comparison page. Shows all memberships in the group. The default URL format of each Group is: /plans/group-slug.
Lifetime AccessOne-time subscription that never expires. This subscription is a single transaction without an expiry date. It allows permanent access without the need for renewals.
Upgrade PathThe Group feature enables changing a user’s subscription from one membership to another. It allows users to upgrade or downgrade their memberships within the group.
Subscription StatusIndicates whether a subscription is Active (currently providing access) or Inactive (cancelled, expired, or paused). Determines whether the member can access protected content.
PermissionsSettings that control what members can do with their membership, including self-cancellation and access to specific dashboard areas.

User Interface Terms

LaunchPad™Professional pre-styled WishList LMS page templates.
Reserved PagesEssential auto-created pages. These include Login, Account, and Thank You. These pages are required for WishList LMS functioning and cannot be deleted.
Login PageCustom member login interface. Replaces WordPress default login. Located at /login by default.
Thank You PagePost-purchase confirmation page. Shows order details and next steps. Default URL: /thank-you.

Feature-Specific Terms

TermDefinition
Custom FieldsCustom Text and Checkbox fields which can be added to the registration and account forms.
CourseAn educational content unit containing one or more lessons. You can protect entire courses using the WishList LMS page-based protection settings.
Math CaptchaBuilt-in spam prevention feature. When enabled, this feature will require users to solve a simple math problem before being able to submit their registration.
Reminder(s)Automated emails triggered by membership events such as upcoming renewals, expirations, or trial endings. Helps reduce churn and keep members informed.
WishList LMS Add-onsOptional plugin extensions that add features to WishList LMS. Install add-ons from Dashboard > WishList LMS > Add-ons. Availability depends on your plan.

Default URLs

WishList LMS creates predictable URL patterns for easy memorization. All URLs can be customized if needed. Default patterns work well for most sites.

  • Login Page: /login
  • Account Page: /account
  • Thank You Page: /thank-you
  • Registration Pages: /register/[membership-slug]
  • Pricing Pages: /plans/[group-slug]
